The national team will play its second away match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai at 0:30 AM on the 10th of next month, our time, and then play its final match against Asia's strongest team, Hong Kong, at the Happy Valley Stadium in Hong Kong at 5:30 PM on June 22nd.
This competition, in which Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the UAE participate, will determine the winner based on the results of the full league without a separate tournament.
Hosted by the Asian Rugby Federation, this competition was held as the Asian Rugby Championship from 1969 until it was changed to the current competition in 2015.
Korea has won the predecessor Asian Rugby Championship five times, starting in 1982, 1986, 1988, 1990, and 2002.
Last year, they were runners-up.
They lost to Hong Kong 10-30 in the final match of the tournament held on June 18th of that year, handing over the championship trophy to Hong Kong.
The Korea Rugby Association plans to start preparing in earnest for next year's Asia Rugby Championship, which will determine the qualification for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, starting with this tournament.
Choi Yoon, the president of the Korea Rugby Union, said, "I hope that the national team players who are participating in their first international competition this year will do their best and show the fighting spirit of the Hangzhou Asian Games last year."
He also emphasized, "Advancing to the Rugby World Cup, a world-class competition, is the most important thing," and "Even if it means adjusting the domestic competition schedule, all rugby players, including professional teams, military athletics units, and university teams, should work together and focus all their capabilities on advancing to the World Cup."
