Korea's first Olympic medal in rapid-fire pistol, best performance ever.
Cho Young-jae (25), a 'soldier in his final years' who has a month left before his discharge, has brought the 6th medal to Korean shooting.
Cho Young-jae won a silver medal with 25 points in the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol final at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at the Chateauroux Shooting Center in France on the 5th.
Cho Young-jae is the first Korean shooter to win a medal in the rapid-fire pistol.
With this, Korean shooting won 6 medals in this competition (3 gold and 3 silver), surpassing the 2012 London Olympics (3 gold and 2 silver), and achieving the best Olympic results ever.
Korean shooting took gold medals in women's air pistol Oh Ye-jin (19), women's air rifle Ban Hyo-jin (16), and women's 25m pistol Yang Ji-in (21).
In addition, Park Ha-jun and Geum Ji-hyun (both 24) won silver medals in mixed air rifle, and Kim Ye-ji (31) won silver medals in women's air pistol.
In the rapid fire pistol final, six athletes must fire all five shots within four seconds in three rounds, for a total of 15 shots.
A score of 9.7 or higher is required to earn one point, and a score of 9.7 or lower is not required to earn any points.
After that, each athlete shoots five shots, and the last-place athlete is eliminated one by one.
He hit all 5 shots on target in the third series, and finished in a tie for 2nd place with a total of 11 points, 1 point behind Li Yuehong (China).
Cho Young-jae focused even more on the 4th series, where the last place was dropped one by one.
He hit 4 shots and took the lead with 15 points, and he also hit 4 shots in the 5th series, solidifying his 1st place with 19 points.
However, he hit 2 shots in the 6th series and 3 shots in the 7th series, allowing Li Weihong to take the lead again.
With this silver medal, he also has the opportunity to bring forward his discharge date a little.
Li Yuehong (35, China), who shot a total of 32 points in the 7 series, won the gold medal, and Wang Xunjie (28, China), who shot 23 points, won the bronze medal.
